A spherical steel ball tip on the pivot end of the blade locks into a socket in the dark green PaperStone handle making an interesting, unique and very functional lock for the blade. (when in use it is easy and natural to keep your thumb on the sphere to keep the blade open) To close it you just fold the blade closed without pinching pressure on the sides of the handle and the ball pops out of the socket.
